Well the disappointment continues with the Malibu except now things take a even more disappointing turn. Her father has stepped into play and is now pushing her to off load the Malibu because he spoke with his Chevy sales guy. they have bought/leased more than 10 cars from this guy over the past 20 years and he’s really pushing them to bring the Bu in and pick up something new.
The problem with this is the options it gives us are, another small Chevy. fuck. We really can go else where either because this guy is basically willing to give us waay to much for the Malibu even knowing it’s current state. also her dad is willing to toss some cash if needed into the mix, if only we go to this sales guy. fuck.
Well so what does all this First world problem ammount to?
Either a 2017 Buick Encore in Preferred II trim (for blind spot sensors) or a essentials if we can get the price down to get some Bose in the mix. Or a 2017 1LT malibu with the driver confidence package.
so what do I do?

Do it. You know what you’ve got is garbage, this offer amounts to a gift.
As far as which one to get, I’d probably go for the 2.0 Malibu... but I’d say just get her to test both and leave with the one she likes best. Shocking, I know.

Depends on what you do with it.
Encore for short city stuff.
Malibu for longer road trips.
I would rather spend seat time in the Bu

Those Buicks seem nice. If I had to purchase a new GM product that’s what I’d look at first.

basically whats going to happen. it just sucks, not what i wanted to be bringing home on either front. the encore would be nice for the AWD in the winter for road trips and the cargo room with the seats down. but the Malibu is what she’s use to but the 2017 is also larger than the 2012. So it may be a bit to big for her.

90% of the driving will be her just going to work. we have the impala for road trips but if she gets the encore it would probably be the winter tripper with AWD.

Which engines does the Mokka, sorry, Encore get over there?
The Malibu seems like more car, if it can be had for similar money.

I like the Encore. It’s a pretty decent do everything package. Very practical. Seats are comfy and there is decent room in back for regular sized humans. I’m 6'2" and fit no problem. Very accommodating for child car seats too, if you’re into that. Has a roof rack standard, so you have room to expand cargo capacity if needed
My mother in law has one and it’s kind of a hoot tondrive something so small. It’s not fast or powerful. A 2.0T Malibu would murder this thing in a drag race. But it’s a nice vehicle and can be well equipped at a low price.

Any luck on them maybe bringing in a car from another lot? 2016 models can be had for cheap. A dealer near me had a 2016 V6 Camaro with 5 or 6 grand off the sticker. I imagine a leftover 2016 Malibu could be a great buy.

I’ve driven an Astra that had that engine, it’s actually quite a torque-y engine, though I’m not sure how it behaves coupled to an automatic. (An Astra wagon is about the same weight as a 4wd Encore/Mokka, so the torque-y feel should remain)

they don’t have any “new” 2016's left. I’m looking at the 2017's as the 2018's are on lot and they about 10k lower then MSRP. which is great because it lets us go upmarket on the trim levels. the preferred II level on on the encore is down to 20k from 29k and the 1LT Malibu with the driver confidence package which forces the technology and convince package is also down from about 29k to $20k. I assume, nah expect to get those prices lower yet if we are gonna pull the trigger.

oh right, no she’s an idiot and was quoting the balanced paid. I should learn not to trust her when it come to financial things because she’s clueless. she only owes $3700 but repairs will be over that.
which frankly is annoying because this POS would have been gone months ago if i knew this.

LOL! Good - then y’all should be in good shape at least on either option. Between the two, I’d take the ‘Bu, but I know some people (my wife) prefer higher seating positions offered by a SUV/CUV.

right it’s long because it has a longer hood. again if i’m going small I’d like rather the encore and get AWD as part of the trade off.

Can you wait for the new Regal? They should be hitting lots next month.
Its more upscale than a Chevy, plus a hatchback, and they start at $25k. Much more room than the Encore.

They likely have a bunch of incentives to move the new metal, so their options will be limited.
How about the impala? That’s the only Chevy sedan that actually looks nice IMO, well that and the SS, but good luck finding a deal for one of those.

My uncle has an encore, I laugh everytime I see it. He calls it cute... it is cute, but it’s a funny looking little thing.
How about something CPO? You get a great warranty and probably save some cash. They could buy a real car. Something full size for new Bu money.

Do you have to get another GM? Just because they are willing to give you a good amount in trade? See if they will just buy her car, and go get something slightly used that’s way better than a Malibu. Like an Accord. Otherwise this cycle will continue.
Reminds me of my friend that is stuck getting Jettas. They have too many problems before they are paid off, so he needs a “new” car. Then he can’t afford to buy anywhere else because no one will give more than VW for a used Jetta. So he ends up getting another Jetta every 3 years. It’s depressing. He could get a 1 or 2 year old Accord, and actually have some equity, or even be free of car payments after a few years. Then he could keep driving it and save that money for 2 or 3 years. Then take the money he saved, and the next car he buys could be decent. But no, he’ll keep buying shitboxes that he can just barely afford.

yeah the cute factor is an issue but it’s for the misses any ways so thats fine. she wont drive full size too much car. She gets nervous driving the Impala because of how big it is. if yout notice we are aiming for trim levels with bind spot detectors for a reason, I should note she only has one eye. So smaller is better.
If CPO was an option we’d be getting a ATS, but saddly talking to her father it sounds like the dealer is only willing to pay stupid money for the car if we go new. which blows.

In this instance I would reluctantly take the Malibu. The Encore/Trax lets the Sonic really show through too much in the lack of interior room and the lack of power in the engine. The Encore is at least nice inside for what it is, but you will appreciate the room in the Malibu better.

Can you politely tell her Dad not to step in? Are you guys married or just dating? If dating, I would just let dear old Dad help out. If you’re married, I would find a way to decline dear old Dads help. Any time you start getting intertwining finances across parents, in-laws, etc, it can get messy for a long time.
I would just pick up an Uber gig for thee months, get her out of upside down loan, and buy something else.
Good luck!
PS I secretly like the Impala. Don’t tell anyone.

We are in the grey area called “Engaged” haha and unfortunately we kind of need dads financial help on this one. course as a loan. We are just coming out of a very rough year that drained our money resources. Also found out the loan was not underwater, she was reading the amount paid not owed, d’oh! she only owes $3700 but repairs will be just as much. Her dad’s guy is offering trade in on miles alone not condition so he’s offering a hair over 6k on a new car, not a CPO, not a lease. I talked to a local toyota dealer and they basically said he’s doing what no one else will and the best they would do is 4k which barely covers the old car loan. with the 3k cash back offer from Toyota. where as with the GM dealer, we get 6k for the car, plus 3500 cash and she gets her grandfathers GM employee discount. for a new Bu any ways, the encore has 10k worth of discounts already so we’d get that plus 6k plus the gm discount. which blows because toyota can’t even come close to these. even on a 2017 camry.

Well, it’s good you have family that can help out - even if it’s not the ideal car. At the end of the day a reliable car is a reliable car. If the shit the fan and I had to drive a Chevy with no problems, I’d drive a Chevy.

The Cruze hatchback is 6.9 inches longer than the Encore, and its wheelbase is 5.7 inches longer than the Encore.
That longer wheelbase plus more width means that in every interior dimension except for headroom, the Cruze hatch is roomier than the Encore. With the back seats up, it has 4 cubic feet more cargo room.
The higher roof on the Encore gives you more headroom, and with the seats down the total cargo volume is the same as the Cruze hatch.
Yes they’re both small cars but the Cruze is noticeably roomier inside than the Encore, so it’s a tradeoff between more room in the Cruze vs. awd in the Encore.
